‘Jana Nayagan’ delayed again; producer to approach revising committee: Reports

Chennai: Actor Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan has hit another hurdle, with the producer agreeing to send the movie to the Revising Committee for review following fresh developments in the Madras High Court, according to News18.

On Tuesday, a division bench of the Madras High Court allowed an appeal filed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), setting aside a single-judge order that had earlier directed the Board to grant the film a ‘U/A 16+’ certificate. The bench held that the single judge should have granted time to the CBFC to file its counter-affidavit before passing the order.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, remanded the matter back to the single-judge bench for a fresh hearing. It also observed that the film’s producer is at liberty to amend the prayer in the writ petition.

The latest ruling effectively stalls the film’s release, which was earlier scheduled for January 9. The producer, KVN Productions, may also consider approaching the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court’s decision.

The development comes a week after the High Court had reserved its verdict on the CBFC’s appeal against the earlier single-bench order that had provided temporary relief to the makers by directing the issuance of a U/A certificate. Further details are awaited.
