Is a sequel to ‘The Kerala Story’ based on the Hema Committee Report in the works?

According to an NDTV report, following the massive success of ‘The Kerala Story’, which grossed Rs 378 crore and became the highest-grossing female-led film, the team is set to create a sequel centred around the controversial Hema Committee report. Director Sudipto Sen and producer Vipul Shah aim to deliver a worthy follow-up, with Adah Sharma once again playing the lead role, further solidifying her status as the face of the franchise.
As per the website, the other details of the film are under wraps, with all cast members under non-disclosure agreements.
The Hema Committee report has ignited significant political and social debate in Kerala, allegedly revealing involvement of several high-profile figures in sexual assaults, making it a highly sensitive subject for the region.
NCW delegation to visit Kerala
Meanwhile, Delina Khongdup, a member of the National Commission for Women, said that the Kerala Government did not comply with their request to hand over the full version of the Hema Committee report. As a result, Khongdup revealed to Mathrubhumi News that the commission members are considering visiting Kerala.
The National Commission for Women demanded the full version of the controversial Hema Committee report, which exposed the issues faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. The state government was asked to provide the report within a week. But the Commission says that the state chief secretary did not even reply in this regard despite the commission's instructions.
"The issue related to the Hema Committee is very serious. That is why we are planning to visit Kerala and take further steps," she said. It is learned that a group of two or three members will visit Kerala. However, the commission has not specified when it will visit.
The Commission will take statements from those who have appeared before the Hema Committee. Those who haven't appeared before the Hema Committee can file a complaint before the Commission.
Earlier, in an official press release, the NCW stated that the Commission had observed some "concern findings" in the Hema Committee Report, which points to some "serious issues" including "workplace harassment, gender-based discrimination, and other forms of exploitation that adversely affect women in the Malayalam film industry."
Tense days lie ahead for the Malayalam film industry and its stars, as the Hema Committee report is expected to cause further ripples across the state. (With inputs from Agencies)
