UP Police constable Kapil Dinkar surprises Samay Raina on India's Got Latent 2

A uniformed policeman walking onto the stage of India’s Got Latent 2 was enough to make the entire panel freeze for a moment.

Given the show's controversial history and the legal storm that followed its first season, the unexpected sight immediately raised eyebrows. But what looked like a tense moment quickly turned into one of the funniest and most memorable segments of the new season.

The surprise came when contestant Kapil Dinkar was called to the stage. Dressed in a police uniform, he confidently walked in, leaving host Samay Raina and the panel visibly stunned. The reaction was understandable. Following the controversy surrounding the first season of India’s Got Latent, police officers had previously been associated with investigations and FIRs linked to the show, not talent performances.

Sensing the awkwardness, Samay immediately cracked a joke, saying, “Sir, voh pichla season tha,” triggering laughter from the panel and audience alike.

However, the real surprise was yet to come.

As the interaction continued, Kapil's sharp wit, deadpan delivery and quick comebacks turned the segment into an entertaining exchange. What began as a nervous moment soon evolved into one of the episode's highlights.

When Samay jokingly suggested that he could not simply wear a police uniform like that, Kapil revealed that he was, in fact, a serving police constable with the Uttar Pradesh Police. The revelation left Samay stunned.

“I can't believe police wale aa gaye perform karne yaar (can't believe policeman came to perform),” Samay remarked before walking up to the contestant and humorously offering him tea, continuing the playful banter.

The jokes did not stop there.

Kapil, matching the comedian's energy, took a light-hearted dig at the show's past troubles and quipped, “Phir se shuru kar diya yeh, pichli baar chain nahi pada bandh karwake?” (You started it again? Didn't get peace after shutting it down last time?)

The comment drew loud laughter as it referenced the controversy that had forced the show's previous run into the spotlight.

After his performance, fellow panelists Kiku Sharda and Haarsh Limbachiyaa praised Kapil's act. That prompted another joke from Samay, who said, “Jis jispe FIR hai sab tareef kar rahe hai,” suggesting that everyone with an FIR was suddenly praising the policeman.

When Samay jokingly observed that even the police watch the show, Haarsh delivered a punchline that drew another round of laughs: “Police hi toh dekhti hai. (It's the police only who watches the show).”

Beyond the comedy, Kapil's personal story resonated with viewers. He revealed that he was selected as a Uttar Pradesh Police constable in 2021 and is currently posted in Meerut. According to him, becoming a police officer was his mother's dream, while music has always remained his own passion.

Kapil shared that he balances both worlds by serving in the police force during the night and dedicating his mornings to creative pursuits, including singing and songwriting. Throughout the segment, he matched Samay's improvisational humour with quick legal-themed comebacks, creating a lively exchange that kept the audience entertained.

His performance ultimately paid off. Kapil walked away with a total prize amount of ₹1.5 lakh, ₹1 lakh for correctly guessing his score and an additional ₹50,000 from a sponsor challenge.

Why the policeman's appearance caught everyone off guard

The reaction inside the studio was rooted in the show's controversial past.

In 2025, India's Got Latent found itself at the centre of a major controversy after YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made an offensive remark to a contestant during an episode. The comment sparked widespread outrage on social media and resulted in multiple FIRs against Allahbadia and several others associated with the show.

The controversy escalated further when the National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognisance of the matter. FIRs were also filed against Samay Raina, and the original season of India's Got Latent was eventually removed from YouTube.

Against that backdrop, the arrival of a policeman on the India's Got Latent 2 stage initially appeared ominous. Instead, viewers witnessed a talented constable, a passionate musician and one of the episode's biggest crowd-pleasers.

What started as a moment of panic ended as one of the most talked-about performances of the season.
