New backlash for Kamal Haasan starrer 'Indian 2' after E-Sewa member lodges complaint

The highly anticipated 'Indian 2', starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Shankar, hit theaters worldwide on July 12. The original 'Indian', released in 1996, featured Kamal Haasan in a dual role fighting against corruption, earning him the National Award for Best Actor.
However, 'Indian 2' has faced backlash after an E-Sewa staff member lodged a complaint about a scene in the film. The controversial sequence depicts E-Sewa staff accepting a Rs 300 bribe to issue Aadhar cards. This portrayal has upset E-Sewa employees, leading to complaints from their association.
The E-Sewa association members have denied any involvement in bribery and demanded the removal of the offending scene. They expressed their concerns about the film mocking their staff and criticized the 'Indian 2' team for not addressing larger crimes in the country. The association has sought the Tamil Nadu government's intervention to remove the scene.
Initially released with a runtime of 3 hours, 'Indian 2' was trimmed by 15 minutes three days post-release due to audience feedback about its length. Despite the changes, the film continues to receive below-average reviews and is struggling at the box office.
'Indian 2', a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster 'Indian', boasts a stellar cast including Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, S J Suryah, and Bobby Simha. The film's music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with Ravi Varman handling cinematography and Sreekar Prasad overseeing editing. The film premiered on July 12.
