Thiruvananthapuram: Director Christo Tomy, whose film Ullozhukku recently won a National Award on Friday, has lauded actor Urvashi for elevating the script with her exceptional performance.

His remark came in the wake of Urvashi winning the best supporting actress award for her performance in "Ullozhokku" on Friday.

“I was often shocked by her performance during filming… Urvashi acted so genuinely and from the heart that it didn’t seem like acting," he recalled.

Christo also fondly remembered spending a day with Urvashi in Chennai to go over the script.

"When I returned from spending a day in Chennai with Urvashi to discuss the script, it was like getting a 'crash course' from a university," he said.

Christo spent eight years working on Ullozhukku, after graduating from the Film Institute. According to him, at several points, it seemed like the project might never happen.

Ullozhukku, starring Urvashi and Parvathy Thiruvoth in lead roles, was released on 21 June 2024 and garnered widespread positive reviews from critics.

"The blessing of this film is that it got the country's best actresses, Urvashi and Parvathy Thiruvoth," Christo shared.

Christo also recalled that the shooting of the film was not without difficulties. "Everyone who worked on the film, including Urvashi and Parvathy, completed the film after struggling for many days shooting in a pool of water,” he said.

The young director also expressed his happiness at the recognition Ullozhukku has received. "I am very happy with this recognition for my first film," he said.
