‘I myself have lost lot of opportunities — should I feel sad about it?’ says Shweta, when asked whether AMMA would help actors land roles

Kochi: Responding to questions on whether the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) would intervene to ensure opportunities for senior actors, AMMA President Shwetha Menon stated that it is ultimately directors who decide the casting in films.
“Cinema is not decided by AMMA or the producers’ association; it is the directors who make those decisions. It all depends on the director’s perspective. Neither the producer nor the actors’ organisation can interfere. I myself have missed out on many films; should I feel sad about it? It is the director’s decision,” Shwetha said.
She made this statement while addressing the media during a reception organised by the Producers’ Association at their headquarters, following her election as AMMA President.
During the press meet, Producers’ Association Secretary Listin Stephen expressed his wish to collaborate with AMMA in hosting shows. Shwetha assured that the cooperation which earlier existed between the two organisations would continue in the future.
