I did it all for him! The girl in me believed compromises were essential for love: Nayanthara

Lady superstar Nayanthara spoke candidly about her decision to take a break from cinema in 2011. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, she revealed that, at the time, she believed compromises were necessary for love. Reflecting on her relationship with choreographer-actor Prabhu Deva, Nayanthara shared that it was his request for her to leave films after marriage, leaving her with no other option.

However, their relationship ended in a highly publicised breakup, which became a turning point in her life. Nayanthara made a triumphant comeback with Atlee’s Raja Rani after the hiatus, marking a remarkable revival in her career.

In her remarks, Nayanthara noted the prevalence of complex relationships in the film industry. “I don’t claim such relationships are wrong—it’s just how this field operates. At the time, the young girl in me believed sacrifices were essential for love,” she explained.

Addressing the changes in her perception of love, the actress stated that meeting her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, transformed her understanding. “Now I realise that unconditional love truly exists,” she added.

Previously, Nayanthara had announced her departure from cinema after her role in Sri Rama Rajyam, amidst controversies surrounding her relationship with Prabhu Deva, who was already married. His wife, Latha, opposed their relationship and refused to agree to a divorce, leading to cracks in their bond.

The actress also faced earlier rumours of a relationship with actor Silambarasan (Simbu), which ended quickly. She later met Vignesh Shivan during the filming of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, where their relationship blossomed.

Despite challenges, Nayanthara’s journey demonstrates her resilience, making her one of the most admired stars in the industry today.
