Veteran actor-director Rakesh Roshan recently recalled a harrowing incident from his past, describing it as a "bad dream." The filmmaker, known for directing his son Hrithik Roshan’s debut film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), was shot by assailants shortly after the film’s release. The attack left his family shaken and forced him to live under tight security.

Following the attack, Roshan was assigned two armed security guards for his protection. However, rather than feeling secure, he admitted that their presence made him even more anxious.

"No matter how many security personnel are around you, you are still an open target. If someone wants to harm you, security personnel won't be able to do anything," he said.

Describing his fear, he added, "After this incident, I was assigned two armed security guards. I would sit in the front seat of the car while they sat in the back. That made me even more scared."

"Voh do peeche baithe hain bandook ke saath. Kabhi kuch ho jaye voh peeche se na mujhe maar de (Those two are sitting behind me with a gun. In case something happens, they can kill me)," he added.

How did it affect his daily life?
The constant security presence began to take a toll on Roshan. Even during his walks on the beach, the guards followed him closely, making him feel suffocated.

"When I would go for a walk on the beach, those two security guards would be with me. I was like, 'What is happening?' So, I requested them to take away my security cover. I am okay just as I am. We will see what happens," he explained.

Eventually, he decided to remove his security detail, preferring to live without the looming fear of being constantly watched.

What is Rakesh Roshan doing now?
Roshan, a veteran of Indian cinema, was recently honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award at IIFA 2025. Having acted in films like Khubsoorat (1980) and Kaamchor (1982), he later turned director with Khudgarz (1987).

His directorial ventures include Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), Karan Arjun (1995), and Koyla (1997). He also collaborated with Hrithik Roshan on Koi... Mil Gaya and the Krrish series.

Recently, The Roshans, a Netflix docu-series featuring Hrithik Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, and Rajesh Roshan, was released, offering an insight into the celebrated family’s journey in cinema.
