Fahadh, Srinda fall victim to netizen trolls following ‘Bougainvillea’ OTT release

Filmmaker Amal Neerad’s psychological thriller ‘Bougainvillea,’ starring Jyothirmayi, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchacko Boban, has become the latest target of online trolls following its OTT debut.
While the film received attention for its gripping premise, a particular scene involving actress Srinda has left netizens unimpressed, turning an intense moment into a subject of mockery.
In the movie, Srinda plays the maid of Jyothirmayi's character, Reethu. A key climax sequence, which intended to highlight women empowerment, shows Srinda’s character overpowering Kunchacko Boban’s character 'Royce' and delivering the line, “Ivanokke ithre ollu chechi” (roughly translated as 'Such people are only this much, sister'). The scene was widely criticized as unintentionally comedic.
Social media is going nuts over the climax scene of the movie, with trolls stating that the scene which was supposed to be a serious one derailed into a comedy. The viewers state that Srinda’s mass dialogue comes after she was literally beaten up by the villain in the previous scene.
The criticism didn’t stop there, as Fahadh Faasil’s role in the film also came under fire. Netizens questioned his character’s arc, with one sarcastically summarizing his roles in recent films: “First, he was an entertainer in #Aavesham, Then he was a comedian in #Vettaiyan, Suddenly, he turned into a dumbass in #Bougainvillea, Finally, he hailed as a clown in #Pushpa2 #FahadhFaasil in 2024 in a nutshell.”
‘Bougainvillea,’ released on October 17, 2024, is based on Lajo Jose’s novel ‘Ruthinte Lokam’ and revolves around Royce and his wife, Reethu, as they become entangled in a crime investigation. The film is directed by Amal Neerad and co-written with Lajo Jose.
