‘That person told me girls in the film industry won’t…’: Saniya Iyappan about her breakup

Malayalam actress Saniya Iyappan, known for her roles in Queen and Lucifer, has opened up about her breakup, sharing the valuable lessons she learned regarding self-respect and independence.
In an interview with the YouTube channel I AM With Dhanya Varma, the actress reflected on the challenges she faced and the insights she gained. “What I learned from my breakup is that I don't want a relationship for a while... I tend to over-commit in relationships, which might be my mistake. If I'm in a relationship, I'm ready to give it 24-hour attention.”
The actress, who entered the limelight through a Malayalam dance reality show, disclosed how her former partner's remarks about the film industry left a significant impact on her. “The person whom I dated put a thought into my head that girls working in the film industry won't find a good partner, and a good family won't accept her. When someone we love tells us about the effects of our work, it affects us,” she explained.
Despite this, Saniya remained unwavering in her career aspirations. “Even though that person said all this, I had no plans to quit films,” she said.
Recalling the emotional toll of the breakup, which happened when she was just 21, Saniya described the journey to healing. “It took me about a year to recover after the breakup. During that time, I wasn't in Kochi. I was travelling to various places. I spent a month in Australia with my sister. I was in a state where I didn't find joy in anything I did, but now I'm happy. I've come back accepting everything.”
“I realised that you shouldn't enter a relationship at the cost of self-respect, and you shouldn't be overly dependent on anyone, because people can change at any time,” she added.
Saniya also offered her perspective on love, adding, “In a relationship, I expect care, not gifts. It might sound cheesy, but all I expect is for someone to notice me.”
Reflecting on modern relationship trends, the actress observed, “It seems like today's kids are more interested in situationships than relationships.”
Saniya, who remains active on social media, frequently shares her travel adventures and stories.
