The makers of ‘Drishyam 3’ on Wednesday unveiled the much-anticipated teaser of the Malayalam thriller, marking the return of Mohanlal as the iconic Georgekutty. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the upcoming instalment revisits crucial moments from the 2013 and 2021 films before hinting at the emotional and psychological turbulence awaiting the protagonist.

The teaser, lasting 1 minute and 50 seconds, offers a sombre glimpse into Georgekutty’s present. He appears subdued and fearful, a stark contrast to the confident man audiences saw in the previous films. ‘Drishyam 3’ is slated to release on 21 May, coinciding with Mohanlal’s birthday.

A darker turn for Georgekutty

The promo opens with flashbacks from the earlier films and then cuts to Georgekutty seated inside a church, seemingly weighed down by guilt and dread. He recounts his journey in a reflective voiceover, “I am just an ordinary man. My world is small, just my wife and my children. An unwanted guest invaded our privacy. A guest who had the power to destroy my family. Ensuring that guest would never return to ruin our lives, we sent him back forever.”

He goes on to reveal the psychological strain that continues to haunt him, “When a moment came that could shatter it, I acted without a second thought. In the process, I did not realise how many people I had hurt. Now I am scared, sir. I don't know who else is out there watching.”

Director Jeethu Joseph has already clarified that the third part will depart from the franchise’s murder-mystery template, leaning instead into family drama, something also reflected in the teaser’s tone. The filmmaker has further urged audiences to keep their expectations measured.

Familiar faces return

The film brings back the ensemble cast from the earlier chapters, including Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Siddique, Murali Gopy, Saikumar and KB Ganesh Kumar. Murali Gopy’s police officer, who led the investigation into Varun’s murder in ‘Drishyam 2’, is also shown making a return.

The core technical crew from the second instalment, cinematographer Satheesh Kurup, editor Vinayak VS and composer Anil Johnson, is once again part of the project. Johnson had also scored the music for the first film.

Production and release

‘Drishyam 3’ is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, with presentation by Dr Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios and Panorama Studios. It is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 21 May 2026, aligning with Mohanlal’s 66th birthday.

Ahead of its arrival, director Mahesh Narayanan’s ‘Patriot’, featuring Mammootty and Mohanlal among others, is set to hit theatres.
