Tere Ishk Mein: Dhanush’s surprising take on love stuns co-star Kriti Sanon

Mumbai: Actor Dhanush, who stars as an intense and volatile lover in the upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein, surprised many on Saturday when he described love as an “overrated emotion”. The film’s trailer was launched in Mumbai in the presence of the lead cast, director Aanand L Rai and producer Bhushan Kumar.
At the event, Dhanush was asked by the media what love meant to him, given that the film centres on a turbulent romance. His unexpected reply left both the press and his co-star Kriti Sanon taken aback.
“I don’t know (meaning of love for him). I think it’s just another overrated emotion,” he said.
Kriti Sanon, who plays Mukti — the woman caught in a fiery, rule-breaking romance with Dhanush’s character Shankar — responded immediately. “I don’t think Shankar will agree with you on this,” she said.
Dhanush, however, maintained a distinction between himself and his on-screen persona. “As I told you before, I am nothing like Shankar,” he added.
Tere Ishk Mein, described as a spiritual sequel to the 2013 hit Raanjhanaa, follows Shankar, a fierce and unpredictable young man whose world spirals into chaos after heartbreak. When Mukti and Shankar are forced apart before their love can fully blossom, Shankar’s anguish turns into rage, leading him to vow to “burn entire Delhi to ashes” for his broken heart.
Aanand L Rai announced the project earlier on the 10th anniversary of Raanjhanaa, unveiling a teaser that featured an intense monologue by Dhanush, set against the backdrop of narrow lanes and rising tension. “Pichli baar toh Kundan tha, maan gaya. Par iss baar Shankar ko kaise rokoge?” he says in the teaser, hinting at a more volatile character this time.
Produced under the banners of Gulshan Kumar, T-Series and Colour Yellow Productions, Tere Ishk Mein is backed by Aanand L Rai, Himanshu Sharma, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar.
The film is set to release in cinemas on 28 November.
