Actor Kamal Haasan took to social media to congratulate his longtime friend Mohanlal after the Malayalam superstar was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 71st National Film Awards.

In his tweet, Kamal wrote, “Delighted to see my dear friend Lalettan @Mohanlal honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. A true artist whose craft has touched millions and will continue to inspire generations. A richly deserved recognition.”

Earlier, when a lot of fans voiced concerns over why legendary actors like Kamal Haasan or Mammootty have not yet received the honour despite their long and illustrious careers, Kamal Haasan responded in a recent media interaction that no one should be ridiculed for not winning an award. He added that the Indian film industry is home to many gifted artistes who also deserve to be recognised.

Mohanlal was presented with India’s highest cinematic honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan. He joins a rare group of actors who have been celebrated for their lifetime contribution to the art of cinema.

In his acceptance speech, Mohanlal described the honour as “magical and sacred” and dedicated it not just to himself but to the entire Malayalam film fraternity.

Mohanlal has been a defining figure in Malayalam cinema for decades, with more than 400 film credits across multiple languages. His work has earned him earlier civilian honours such as Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2019.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, established in 1969, is India’s highest recognition for contributions to the film industry.
