Kozhikode: The churches should spread love stories, not hate stories, opined Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, the first metropolitan to step down from the position in the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, in his recent facebook post. His words came in the backdrop of the screening of the controversial movie ‘Kerala Story’ in the churches of Idukki Diocese.

The Idukki Diocese’s move had invited wrath from all corners of society. A political row had broken out in the State over the Doordarshan's decision to broadcast 'The Kerala Story', which had stirred the hornet's nest last year during its release. Both the ruling CPM and the Opposition Congress condemned the decision, calling it a “tacit effort” to divide the society.

The controversies were flared up by the Idukki Diocese screening this Sudipto Sen-directed film for students of classes 10, 11, and 12 as part of their catechism classes.

Toeing the lines of the Idukki diocese, Thalassery and Thamarassery Dioceses are also planning to screen the movie. It is also decided to exhibit the movie in many other locations under the guidance of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement.
