BTS’s Jungkook breaks silence with ‘?’ after Instagram account mysteriously disappears

BTS member Jungkook sent fans into a frenzy this week after his Instagram account abruptly vanished, prompting widespread speculation about whether the superstar had deleted it or whether it had been taken down unexpectedly. The sudden disappearance sparked confusion across social media, and even the singer himself briefly expressed surprise.
The issue unfolded on Wednesday when ARMYs noticed that Jungkook’s profile had become inaccessible. Within hours, discussions spread across platforms, with many questioning whether the suspension was deliberate or the result of an error.
Jungkook’s unexpected reaction
Adding to the mystery, on 27 May Jungkook posted a screenshot on his TikTok story along with a single “?”, a reaction that captured his own bewilderment. He also used BTS’s track “No.29” as the background audio.
The screenshot, which he shared without further explanation, outlined a notice warning that he would lose access to the account unless he requested a review within 180 days. The document listed the suspension date as 27 May 2026 and stated, “Your account, or activity on your account, does not follow our policies regarding intellectual property rights.”
Instagram had flagged the account for allegedly violating its rules on intellectual property and trademark protections.
A history of disappearing accounts
This is not the first time Jungkook has startled fans with an Instagram exit. He previously deleted his original account in February 2023 after gathering 52.4 million followers. He returned with a new handle in July 2025, rapidly amassing more than 21.61 million followers before this week’s suspension.
While Instagram cited an intellectual property violation, online discussions suggested the issue may have been part of Meta’s heightened automated moderation in 2026. According to reports circulating on fan forums and communities, the company has been tightening its AI-driven scrutiny of suspicious engagement, spam behaviour, fake followers and bot activity.
Because Jungkook’s posts often draw enormous interaction within minutes, some ARMYs believe the platform’s system may have mistakenly flagged the account. TimesNow and other outlets reported that several high-profile users, including Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian, have also experienced follower drops or temporary disruptions during recent moderation sweeps.
For now, the scare appears to be over. Jungkook’s Instagram account has since been restored.
BTS’s continued global momentum
The incident comes as BTS enjoys a significant resurgence following their return from military service. The group, comprising RM, Jin, Suga, J-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, has been reclaiming global attention with new music and large-scale performances.
Their latest studio album ‘Arirang’ arrived in March and debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 with 641,000 equivalent album units, the biggest opening week for any group in the US this year and their seventh No. 1. They also staged ‘BTS The Comeback Live Arirang’, their first worldwide concert since completing their military duties, streaming exclusively on Netflix on 21 March.
BTS recently announced a huge anniversary concert set for 13 June at Busan Asiad Main Stadium, to be broadcast live in cinemas around the world. The event forms part of their expansive ARIRANG World Tour. Additionally, the group won Artist of the Year at the 2026 American Music Awards held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The band is also reportedly preparing to co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup halftime show alongside Madonna and Shakira.
