This week’s box office has seen the arrival of eight highly-anticipated films: 'Stree 2', 'Double iSmart', 'Vedaa', 'Demonte Colony 2', 'Khel Khel Mein', 'Thangalaan', 'Nunakuzhi', and 'Vaazha - Biopic of a Billion Boys'. Offering a variety of genres, these films have captivated audiences across the country. As these new releases compete with current chart-toppers, we delve into their opening weekend numbers and evaluate their initial impact on the market.

According to Sacnilk, "Stree 2", released on August 15, directed by Amar Kaushik, has lived up to its hype as a horror-comedy. It collected Rs 51.8 crore on the first day. Over the weekend, the India net collection stood at Rs 191.45 crore, while the worldwide total was Rs 273 crore. The movie collected Rs 31.4 crore on the second day, Rs 43.85 crore on the third day, and Rs 55.9 crore on the fourth day in India.

The Chanderi-set movie, which is directed by Amar Kaushik, centers on what happens after Stree. The Maddock Supernatural Universe has five films total: Stree, Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya. This one is the fifth. The film stars Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, Rajkummar Rao, and Shraddha Kapoor in key parts.  

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, "Double iSmart", released on August 15, garnered Rs 6.9 crore on its opening day in India. Over the weekend, this film’s collection crossed Rs 16.2 crore worldwide. It collected Rs 1.4 crore on the second day, Rs 1.15 crore on the third, and Rs 1.35 crore on the fourth day in India.

The intense plot of "Double iSmart" revolves around Sanjay Dutt's character Big Bull. Big Bull is a global drug and weapons cartel leader who is on a mission to exact revenge on those who killed his mother in India. The narrative takes a sharp turn when Big Bull's brain tumor is discovered, and he requires a memory transfer in order to recover.

With John Abraham, Sharvari, Abhishek Banerjee and Ashish Vidyarthi in the lead roles, "Vedaa", released on August 15, garnered mixed reviews among movie-goers. It garnered Rs 19 crore worldwide. The net collection in India adds up to Rs 14 crore. The day one and day two collections were Rs 6.28 crore and Rs 1.8 crore, respectively, while day three and day four brought in Rs 2.7 crore and Rs 3.2 crore respectively.

'Vedaa' is a tale of valor that opposes an oppressive regime. The narrative depicts the tale of a young lady who rebelled, guided, and supported by a man who she thought would save her, but ended up becoming her weapon. 

Directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, "Demonte Colony 2", released on August 15, garnered Rs 3.55 crore on its opening day in India. Over the weekend, this film’s collection crossed Rs 21 crore worldwide. It collected Rs 2.35 crore on the second day, Rs 4.3 crore on the third day, and Rs 5.25 crore on the fourth day in India.

Ajay Gnanamuthu has skillfully woven the storylines of the prequel and sequel together in this new chapter. With Arulnithi's character, Srinivasan, acts as the pivotal figure that unites the two movies. With important roles in the drama developing, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Archana Ravichandran, Meenakshi Govindarajan, Sarjano Khalid, and Muthu Kumar are among the new performers brought in for the sequel.

"Khel Khel Mein", directed by Mudassar Aziz was released on August 15 and garnered Rs 5.05 crore on its opening day in India. Over the weekend, this film’s collection crossed Rs 23 crore worldwide. It collected Rs 2.05 crore on the second day, Rs 3.1 crore on the third day, and Rs 3.85 crore on the fourth day in India.

Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, and Pragya Jaiswal are among the star-studded ensemble of "Khel Khel Mein". The Mudassar Aziz-directed movie also features a surprise cameo appearance from Chitrangda Singh.

Directed by Pa. Ranjith, "Thangalaan", was released on August 15 and over the weekend, this film’s collection crossed Rs 43 crore worldwide. The India net collection of the film stands at Rs 29.45 crore.

Alongside Pasupathy, Arjun Anbudan, Daniel Caltagirone, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Hari Krishnan, and Preeti Karan, Vikram plays the film's lead role. Set during the British Raj era, a fierce tribal leader sets out to stop an apparent sorceress, after earning her wrath when assisting a British general in tracing gold in their village.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, "Nunakuzhi", released on August 15, garnered Rs 1.65 crore on its opening day in India. Over the weekend, this film’s collection crossed Rs 6.75 crore worldwide. It collected Rs 75 lakh on the second day, Rs 1.15 crore on the third day, and Rs 1.4 crore on the fourth day in India.

In 'Nunakuzhi', Basil Joseph stars as a young man entangled in a web of lies and mistaken identities involving a sex tape, a murder accusation, and a missing laptop. With his wife's life at stake, he teams up with an income tax officer to retrieve his laptop and clear his name. Grace Antony, Siddique, Manoj K Jayan, and others support in this suspenseful drama.

“Vaazha - Biopic of a Billion Boys", directed by Anand Menon, was released on August 15 and garnered Rs 1.3 crore on its opening day in India. Over the weekend, this film’s collection crossed Rs 8 crore worldwide. It collected Rs 1.05 crore on the second day, Rs 1.55 crore on the third day, and Rs 2.1 crore on the fourth day in India.

Written by Vipin Das, it's a comedy-drama about a coming-of-age story. Starring in the movie are Joemon Jyothir, Jagadish, Kottayam Nazeer, Azees Nedumangad, Siju Sunny, Amith Mohan Rajeswari, Anuraj OB, and Saaf Boi. The movie follows four friends as they face the difficulties of adulthood—mates who are frequently branded as "losers" by society. The movie explores their friendships, their bond with their parents, and their quest for meaning and self.
