Actress and dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi has spoken out strongly against what she describes as a grave injustice in the case filed against actress Shweta Menon. The case pertains to a complaint alleging that Shweta appeared in obscene scenes in a film for financial gain.

“What is happening in this case is unjust,” Bhagyalakshmi said. “If films that were released years ago and enjoyed commercial success have been fraudulently altered and uploaded to pornographic websites, Shweta Menon cannot be held responsible. The real culprit is the one who manipulated the content. What is the basis for filing a complaint against her, merely because it is her face seen in the altered footage? This is clearly a malicious move intended to sabotage her chances of contesting.”

Bhagyalakshmi went on to allege that certain male members within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) were either directly or indirectly involved.

“There is no doubt that some men in AMMA are behind this. We’ve seen individuals withdraw nominations due to allegations in the past. This complaint seems part of a deliberate effort to ensure that no one else contests. What we’re witnessing is a feudal mindset -- a refusal to accept a woman rising above them or having her voice heard.”

She also questioned the timing of the complaint. “It was well known for over a month that Shweta Menon would be contesting. Why then was the complaint filed on the last day for withdrawal of nominations? When it became evident that the women candidates had a strong chance of winning, a group within the association -- including some women -- conspired to tarnish her reputation. They are willing to go to any lengths, even if it means publicly shaming her, to remove her from the race. They operate like a quotation gang.”

Bhagyalakshmi further criticised the selective nature of the legal action. “Notably, only Shweta has been targeted, while no action has been taken against the other actors, including Mammootty, who appeared in the same scenes. This selective targeting strongly suggests ulterior motives.”

Shwetha Menon has approached the Kerala High Court seeking the quashing of the case filed against her over allegations of acting in obscene scenes in films for financial gain. The petition, submitted on Thursday morning, also calls for an immediate stay on the ongoing investigation.
