Banned in Pakistan, ‘Dhurandhar’ breaks records with 2 million illegal downloads in just 12 days

‘Dhurandhar’ continues its record-breaking run. The film has so far collected ₹702 crore worldwide, and film critics predict that it will cross ₹800 crore by the weekend. It has also emerged as one of the fastest Indian films to reach the ₹500 crore mark at the box office.
The film stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan and Arjun Rampal in lead roles. Ranveer Singh plays Hamza, an Indian spy who infiltrates Lyari in Pakistan to dismantle terror networks backed by the ISI.
However, the spy action thriller has been banned in Pakistan. Despite the ban, ‘Dhurandhar’ has become the most illegally downloaded film in the country. According to reports, the film was downloaded 2 million times within just 12 days, making it the most pirated Indian film so far. It has surpassed Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ in terms of illegal downloads.
Akshaye Khanna’s dance sequence in the film has drawn major global attention. His entry is set against the backdrop of the Arabic song ‘FA9LA’. In a video that has recently gone viral, the same song can be heard playing loudly at a party in Pakistan. The visuals are reportedly from a party attended by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Bilawal Bhutto, where the song plays as he is welcomed to the stage and escorted to his seat.
There are also reports that the Pakistan Peoples Party has filed a petition in a Karachi court objecting to the use of images of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in the film. The petition reportedly demands that an FIR be registered against the film’s cast and crew.
