‘I am a proud Haryanvi’: Badshah apologises after ‘Tateeree’ lyrics spark outrage

Singer-songwriter Badshah has apologised after his recently released track “Tateeree” sparked controversy over alleged objectionable lyrics about women and minors.
The 40-year-old artist said the song has been taken down from all platforms after several people, particularly from Haryana, expressed hurt over its lyrics and visuals.
Badshah shared a video message on Instagram addressing the controversy and offering an apology.
Singer says he never intended to hurt Haryana’s people
In the video, Badshah said he is proud of his Haryanvi roots and has always aimed to represent and uplift the culture of the state.
“My new song has released and I am seeing that the lyrics and the visual representation has caused a lot of people, especially from Haryana, a lot of hurt,” he said.
“Firstly, I want to say that I am from Haryana. Those who know me will vouch for the fact that my entire identity rests on it. I am a proud Haryanvi.”
He clarified that the lyrics were written within the competitive style typical of hip-hop music and were not meant to target women or children.
“I never had the intention or the aim to speak of any women or children of Haryana in this manner… This was never meant for the women or the kids. I would never do that,” he added.
FIR registered in Haryana
The controversy escalated after police in Haryana registered an FIR against the singer based on a complaint filed by a resident of Panchkula.
The complaint alleged that the music video contained objectionable lyrics and visuals.
Authorities have also issued notices directing that the video be removed from all social media platforms.
In his message, Badshah expressed regret for any offence caused by the song and appealed to the public for forgiveness.
“But if this has caused hurt to anyone, I would like to express my heartfelt apology. I hope that you will consider me as Haryana’s son, your own son and forgive me,” he said.
The singer, known for popular tracks such as “Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai” and “Genda Phool”, has faced criticism in the past over lyrics in some of his songs, but the “Tateeree” controversy marks one of the most serious legal challenges linked to his music.
