As ‘Baaghi 4’ hit theatres on Friday, September 5, audiences took to X with early reviews that reflected a split verdict on the latest chapter of the high-octane franchise.

The fourth instalment in the ‘Baaghi’ series sees Tiger Shroff return as Ronnie, a naval officer whose rage takes centre stage for deeply personal reasons. This time, he faces a formidable opponent in Sanjay Dutt, whose villainous turn has been described as both terrifying and powerful.

The film’s trailer, released on August 30, promised brutal action and high-stakes drama. Tiger Shroff shared the over three-minute preview on Instagram, showcasing his character Ronnie gearing up for a fierce showdown with legendary star Sanjay Dutt, who plays the antagonist.

Fans flocked to cinemas for the early shows and later shared their thoughts online, praising Shroff’s intense performance and gravity-defying stunts while criticising what they saw as an overreliance on violence and a weak storyline.

One user on X wrote, “A mass entertainer setup for a POWER PACKED 2nd half!”

Another user wrote, “It's Pure entertaining Movie First Half; story Buildup excellent”

A third user wrote, “Tiger Shroff the Actor is Born, Look at the intensity at his face not many times you empathise with a movie character Marjaana from Baaghi 4 is out and every frame will bring tears.”

While many fans lauded the film’s action choreography as the best in the series, others said the spectacle leaned too heavily on violence and stylised set pieces at the cost of a strong narrative.

About Baaghi 4

Directed by Kannada filmmaker A Harsha in his Bollywood debut, the action thriller introduces Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu in her first big-screen role, alongside the magnetic Sonam Bajwa. Both actresses have been credited with adding glamour and emotional heft to a story otherwise driven by bloodshed and brutality.

The soundtrack, featuring tracks such as ‘Guzaara’, ‘Bahli Sohni’ and ‘Akeli Laila’, is already resonating with listeners, adding emotional colour to an otherwise relentless narrative.

Industry watchers have noted the film’s darker tone compared with its predecessors. Unlike the previous ‘Baaghi’ releases, the new entry carries an ‘A’ certificate after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) demanded 23 cuts. Bollywood Hungama reported that after receiving its initial certificate, the makers voluntarily submitted more cuts, trimming the runtime from 2 hours 43 minutes to 2 hours 37 minutes.

The franchise, launched in 2016 with director Sabbir Khan, grew under Ahmed Khan, who helmed its second and third instalments. With ‘Baaghi 4,’ A Harsha takes the reins, bringing his signature gritty action style from Kannada cinema into mainstream Bollywood. The cast also includes Shreyas Talpade, Upendra Limaye, Saurabh Sachdeva, Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir and Mahesh Thakur.
