'Awarapan 2' hits Rs 100 crore in 5 days, gives Emraan Hashmi his first solo box office century

Emraan Hashmi’s 'Awarapan 2' has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office within five days of its theatrical release. The film, which arrived in cinemas on August 14, has collected Rs 100.75 crore net in India, according to the figures provided.

The milestone is particularly significant for Hashmi, as 'Awarapan 2' is his first film as a solo lead to cross Rs 100 crore at the domestic box office. The actor had previously been part of films such as 'Tiger 3' and 'They Call Him OG' that crossed the milestone, but in those projects, he appeared in antagonist roles.

The sequel opened with Rs 22 crore on its first day and recorded a major jump on Saturday, collecting Rs 33.75 crore. Sunday added another Rs 26 crore to its total, giving the film a strong opening weekend.

Collections dropped as expected after the weekend, but the film remained steady through the first two weekdays. It earned Rs 9.25 crore on Monday, followed by Rs 9.75 crore on Tuesday.

With its five-day India net total at Rs 100.75 crore, the film's India gross collection stands at around Rs 120 crore, while its worldwide earnings have reached Rs 144.13 crore, as per the figures available.

The original Awarapan did not emerge as a major theatrical success during its initial release, but its music and storyline helped it build a following over the years. The sequel has now opened to significantly stronger box office numbers, with 'Awarapan 2' reaching the Rs 100 crore mark in less than a week.

Reportedly made on a budget of around Rs 45 crore, the film has already recovered its estimated production cost based on its India net collection. The reported figures place its return on investment at approximately 122 per cent after five days of release.
