Asif Ali responds to allegations raised by Sheelu Abraham: Learn more

Malayalam actor Asif Ali has expressed his regret over the omission of other Onam films in a recent promotional video featuring himself, Tovino Thomas, and Antony Varghese. Speaking to the media as part of the promotional activities, Asif Ali addressed the controversy surrounding the video.
"We three are roughly of the same age group. This year has been a remarkable start for Malayalam cinema, with many great films released and theaters becoming active again. In this positive environment, an ‘unexpected event’ has introduced some negativity into the cinema scene," said Asif Ali, in reply to allegations raised by actor-producer Sheelu Abraham.
He acknowledged that while the promotional video did not mention other films, it was not intended to be negative. "We were focused on creating a positive atmosphere for the Onam season, which is crucial for the film industry. We aimed to keep the season lively and engaging. We did not intend for the omission to have a negative impact. Our goal was to market our films positively and respect audience choice. It is regrettable that our omission has been viewed negatively," he added.
The promotional video, which featured Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, and Antony Varghese, drew criticism from actress and producer Sheelu Abraham. She alleged that the actors had deliberately promoted only their films and ignored others, which she said caused distress among those affected. Sheelu Abraham's comments have sparked a broader discussion on the responsibilities of actors in film promotion.
Asif Ali's comments aim to clarify the intent behind the promotional video and address the concerns raised by the critics.
Here’s what Sheelu Abraham said accusing the actors
"Dear Tovino, Asif, Pepe... Thank you for showing us how 'power groups' operate. In the video you created to display your unity and affection, you are misleading the audience into believing that only three films are releasing this Onam. You have ignored our films - Bad Boys, Kummattikali, and Gangs of Sukumara Kurup - which are also releasing for Onam. The Malayali audience is more powerful than the self-serving power groups. Our film is releasing tomorrow. I hope all films released during this Onam succeed and that everyone profits from their investments," Sheelu stated.
Bad Boys director Omar Lulu also came forward in support of Sheelu, asking, "Asif, Tovino, Pepe... haven't you all faced challenges to reach cinema? Why have you overlooked us?"
Currently, all the films mentioned have hit the theaters, drawing crowds back to the halls following the release of the controversial Hema Committee report.
