Police register case against actress Lakshmi Priya on Ansiba Hassan's complaint

Kochi: Police have registered a case against actress Lakshmi Priya following a complaint alleging that she insulted actress Anciba Hassan on social media. The Palarivattom police registered the case on the directions of the court, acting on Anciba's private complaint.

Anciba had approached the police alleging that Lakshmi Priya had personally abused her and made remarks insulting her womanhood. After the police allegedly failed to register a case based on her complaint, Anciba approached the magistrate's court and later the High Court.

The High Court subsequently directed the lower court to re-examine the complaint.

The dispute between Anciba and Lakshmi Priya came to light amid disagreements within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

Background

Ansiba Hassan had alleged that actress Lakshmi Priya, along with representatives of online platform CAN Channel, filmed and circulated videos containing false, derogatory and sexually coloured remarks against her on social media. The allegations relate to an online video interview published in June 2026.

Ansiba had initially approached the police, but alleged that no effective action was taken. She then moved the magistrate court, which initially treated her petition as a private complaint instead of directing registration of an FIR. Ansiba challenged the decision in the Kerala High Court, which set aside the lower court's order and directed a reconsideration of the matter. Subsequently, Magistrate Shana Beegam forwarded the complaint to the police for investigation under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
