Ansiba elected unopposed as AMMA Joint Secretary; Shweta Menon, Devan in presidential race

The upcoming elections to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) are gaining clarity, with several key positions now seeing confirmed candidates. Notably, actress Ansiba Hassan has been elected unopposed to the post of Joint Secretary, following the withdrawal of 12 out of 13 candidates who had initially filed nominations for the role.

The unanimous election comes after actor Baburaj, who had submitted papers for the General Secretary position, announced his withdrawal from the race. In a public statement, Baburaj said he was stepping down from all organisational activities within AMMA, not due to pressure or fear, but in light of “continuous allegations and slander” that made it difficult for him to continue

With the field narrowing, the race for AMMA President is set to be a direct contest between Shweta Menon and Devan, following the withdrawal of Jagadish and several others, many of whom reportedly backed Shweta’s candidacy in a push to see a woman lead the organisation.

The post of Vice President has three contenders: Nasser Latif, Jayan Cherthala, and Lakshmipriya. The General Secretary position will see a battle between Raveendran and Kukku Parameswaran. Meanwhile, Anoop Chandran and Unni Sivapal will contest for the post of Treasurer.

With nominations closing and withdrawals finalised, the picture of AMMA’s new leadership is becoming clearer.
