After 'Oppam' Priyadarshan told me, ‘People in Kerala will never forget you’: Samuthirakani

During a promotional event for the Dulquer Salmaan-starrer Kaantha in Kochi, actor Samuthirakani reflected on his journey since working with Mohanlal in the film Oppam and shared valuable advice he received from director Priyadarshan.
Recalling the director’s words, Samuthirakani said, “After Oppam, Priyadarshan told me, ‘The audiences in Kerala will never forget you. It’s okay if success comes a little late, but never take on the wrong films. Always choose the right projects.’”
Speaking about Kaantha, he added, “I have come with a proper story and a universal language. This film has no language barriers—it is a timeless piece of poetry. Audiences will appreciate it, no matter what language they watch it in.”
Samuthirakani also praised his co-star, Dulquer Salmaan. “When I act alongside him, I never perform in the first take; I simply enjoy his performance. At that point, the director, Selvamani Selvaraj, often says, ‘You’re just watching him, right?’ I truly relish acting alongside him, and that inspires my own performance,” he said.
Highlighting Dulquer’s talent and dedication, Samuthirakani noted, “Being able to witness his range of emotions up close, his skill, hard work, and the love he shows to others is remarkable. He is destined for great heights.”
On his personal rapport with Dulquer, Samuthirakani said, “We share a father-son-like bond,” expressing his love for his fellow actor.
