Mumbai: Bollywood music composer Sachin Sanghvi, known for his work as part of the popular duo Sachin-Jigar, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who claimed he promised her a role in a music album and marriage. The arrest took place on Thursday, 23 October, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Mumbai Police, the complainant, a woman in her 20s, alleged that Sachin first contacted her on Instagram in February last year. He reportedly offered her work in an upcoming music project and later invited her to his studio. The woman claimed that he proposed marriage and went on to sexually assault her on several occasions.

Police confirmed that the complaint was filed earlier this week and that Sachin was taken into custody for questioning before being granted bail. His lawyer, Aditya Mithe, called the allegations “baseless and unsubstantiated,” adding that there was “no merit to the case” and that his client’s detention was “illegal.”

Mithe said they intend to defend the case fully, stating, “My client’s detention by the police was illegal, and that is why he was released on bail immediately.”

Sachin Sanghvi has not issued any public statement on the matter. His official Instagram account, @soulfulsachin, appears to be deactivated, and his music partner Jigar has not commented publicly.

Sachin-Jigar are among Bollywood’s most successful composer duos, known for chartbusters such as Aaj Ki Raat, Stree 2, and the recent Diwali release Thamma, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana.

Mumbai Police confirmed that the FIR was filed after the woman approached the authorities with details of repeated sexual assault incidents. The complaint alleges that Sachin Sanghvi misled her with promises of professional opportunities and marriage before engaging in non-consensual acts.

The police have registered a case under relevant IPC sections pertaining to sexual assault and criminal intimidation. Further investigation is under way, and statements from both parties are being recorded.

Sachin’s lawyer maintained his client’s innocence, asserting that the allegations were an attempt to malign the composer’s reputation. “The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated,” Mithe told reporters, adding that they will “defend all allegations fully and unequivocally.”

Neither Sachin nor his professional partner Jigar has released an official statement. The duo, best known for their compositions in Stree 2, Badlapur, and Thamma, continue to remain prominent figures in the Hindi film music industry.

The case has sparked discussion in Bollywood circles, with many urging for due process while stressing the need for accountability in the entertainment industry.
