Chennai: Indian music legend Ilaiyaraaja, widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of his time, is set to present his first-ever western classical symphony at London’s Eventim Apollo Theatre on 8 March 2025. This highly anticipated performance marks a significant milestone in Ilaiyaraaja's illustrious career.

What makes this event even more special is the collaboration with the renowned Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, which will accompany Ilaiyaraaja for this historic performance. The maestro will not only conduct the symphony but is also expected to perform exclusive orchestra versions of some of his most beloved tracks.

Taking to his X account, Ilaiyaraaja shared an exciting announcement with his fans. In a video, he said: “A historical moment is going to happen. At the Eventim Apollo theatre, London on March 8th, As the first Indian, I am happy, very, very happy to present my first ever western classical symphony. I will be there to present this and also perform a special surprise performance with a full piece orchestra featuring the phenomenal Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London. Don’t miss it. Be there to witness history happening.”

This announcement follows the release of a new video last month that offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Ilaiyaraaja’s first English classical symphony, titled ‘Valiant’. The symphony was recorded with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and in the video, Ilaiyaraaja can be seen addressing the orchestra’s musicians, saying: “Every day, I used to record a song or a film score. I am a film composer. Suddenly, I thought of writing a symphony. When I started writing, I never thought I would record with you all. I never imagined. There is no good and bad in music. Each and every note is perfect – on its own.”
