A viral controversy surrounding a stand-up comedy show has taken a fresh turn after Khushboo Patani, sister of actor Disha Patani, reacted strongly to a clip in which a man claimed he sought sexual favours after spending Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani during a date.

The backlash began after Gurugram-based web developer Himanshu Jangra shared the anecdote during comedian Pranit More’s live show.

In the now-viral clip, Jangra recounted spending Rs 370 on biryani for a woman and said he expected something in return when she later asked him to drop her home.

The remarks triggered widespread outrage online, with many users calling them sexist and derogatory towards women.

Several social media users also criticised More for laughing during the exchange instead of immediately challenging the comment.

Joining the criticism, Khushboo Patani described the incident as disturbing and questioned the normalisation of such attitudes under the guise of comedy. Her reaction quickly gained traction online, adding to the growing condemnation of the viral clip.

"This is what the 22–23-year-old men are saying. See girls what they want to do. Look at the laughter in the show. I am shocked how the comedian did not stop this man from spewing such dirt on the show," she said.

She went on to say, "These educated fools will determine our rates. It starts when we go to school, then at college, then at a date and finally after marriage with dowry."

As outrage mounted, Jangra issued an apology and deactivated his Instagram account. More also apologised for his conduct during the show, saying he never intended to endorse the remarks.

The controversy had professional consequences as well. Gurugram-based design firm Starvik Design terminated Jangra’s employment following an internal review.

Confirming the decision, company founder Vivek Vishwakarma said the organisation had chosen to part ways with the employee while hoping the episode would serve as an opportunity for reflection and learning.

The incident has since sparked a broader debate on social media about the boundaries of comedy, the accountability of performers and audiences, and the treatment of women in public discourse.

Many users argued that responsibility extends beyond the speaker to those who laugh at or amplify such comments.

With Khushboo Patani’s reaction now adding another prominent voice to the criticism, the controversy continues to fuel conversations about misogyny, online accountability, and the limits of humour.
