‘Dhamaal 4’ X review: Laugh riot or 'SCAMaal'? Internet delivers mixed verdict on Ajay Devgn's film

Ajay Devgn's 'Dhamaal 4' has finally arrived in theatres, bringing back the franchise's signature blend of slapstick comedy, treasure hunting and chaotic adventures.
Directed by Indra Kumar, the fourth instalment released on Friday, July 10, with fans eager to watch the return of Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi together on the big screen.
Soon after the first shows ended, social media platform X was flooded with audience reactions.
While a section of viewers called the film a complete family entertainer packed with laughs, others felt the humour failed to recreate the magic of the earlier films. The result has been a sharply divided response online.
Many fans appreciated the reunion of the original cast and praised the film's comic moments. One viewer described 'Dhamaal 4' as 'a masterfully executed revival of a beloved comedy legacy that proudly returns to its roots.'
Another user claimed theatres were echoing with laughter, calling it the 'best comedy film of the year' and a complete entertainer from start to finish.
Some moviegoers also felt the film exceeded their expectations. An interval review stated that it was 'actually a fun watch' with plenty of laughs and even compared it favourably to 'Welcome to the Jungle'.
Another fan praised the performances, saying there had not been a dull moment in the first 40 minutes.
According to the viewer, Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Mishra delivered excellent comic timing, while Jaaved Jaaferi emerged as the biggest scene-stealer.
Devgn's return to full-fledged comedy also received praise from several viewers.
One social media user admitted the film was a hit-and-miss overall but appreciated seeing the actor back in his comic avatar, saying his timing remained one of the film's biggest strengths.
However, not everyone was impressed. Several users criticised the film's writing, saying many jokes failed to land. One disappointed viewer bluntly called it 'cringe comedy', adding that 'even children won't laugh'.
Another audience member said that despite entering the theatre with zero expectations, the film still failed to deliver consistently, describing it as entertaining only in parts, with several comic stretches feeling unnecessarily long.
The film's technical execution also became a talking point online. Some viewers criticised what they described as low-quality AI-generated visuals used during the backstory montage, with one user claiming that content creators on Instagram and YouTube produce better visuals.
Another disappointed fan summed up their verdict with a sarcastic wordplay, calling the film 'SCAMaal 4' instead of 'Dhamaal 4'.
Apart from Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi, the film also stars Ravi Kishan, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Esha Gupta, Sanjay Mishra and Anjali Anand in important roles.
The story follows the gang as they set off in search of the mysterious 'Treasure of Life', only to find themselves caught in a series of comic misadventures across islands, caves and dangerous locations.
With reactions ranging from 'laugh riot' to 'cringe comedy', 'Dhamaal 4' has clearly divided audiences. Whether it becomes another successful chapter in the franchise may ultimately depend on how family audiences respond over the weekend.
