The sudden death of Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta has sent shockwaves across Tollywood, with chilling details emerging from the preliminary investigation into the incident at his Hindustan Park residence in Kolkata.

The director reportedly fell from the rooftop of a four-storey building on Wednesday morning and was rushed to a private hospital near Dhakuria in critical condition.

Doctors later declared him dead. His body was subsequently taken to SSKM Hospital for post-mortem examination.

What has intensified the mystery surrounding the incident is the recovery of an alleged suicide note and CCTV footage that reportedly captured the filmmaker’s final movements moments before the fatal fall.

According to police sources, the handwritten note was addressed to his daughter, who currently lives in Sweden.

Investigators said no one was blamed in the note. The letter was reportedly found inside an envelope hidden within a magazine on the terrace.

Sources also claimed that CCTV footage from the residential complex showed Dutta entering the premises and heading straight to the rooftop instead of visiting his former wife’s apartment in the building.

Moments later, the tragic incident unfolded. The preliminary autopsy report has revealed multiple severe injuries.

Doctors found heavy bleeding in the brain and body, fractures on the left side of the skull and ribs, a broken hip, and major injuries to the left leg.

Deep abrasion marks were also found on the left side of his face, waist and back. The report further stated that blood clots had formed in his lungs.

Officials believe the filmmaker struck tree branches near the building while falling from the terrace before crashing onto the ground below.

The incident has sparked intense speculation online, though police have not indicated any foul play so far. The investigation is currently focused on analysing the CCTV footage, forensic findings, and the contents of the note.

Dutta became a household name in Bengali cinema after the blockbuster success of 'Bhooter Bhabishyat' in 2012.

The film earned cult status for its sharp political satire wrapped in a supernatural narrative. He later directed 'Ashchorjyo Prodeep' (2013) and several other acclaimed works.
