P Vijayan IPS

P Vijayan, who hails from Puthoormadam in Kozhikode, became an IPS officer after surviving the hardships in life. He started doing manual labours while he was in high school. He failed in SSLC examination in the first chance and could attempt it again after gap of five years. He later completed MA and MPhil in Economics from University of Calicut.
He succeeded in IPS examination in 1999 and was appointed as the DIG in the Armed Police Battalion and official-in-charge in Kerala Railway Police. The scheme ‘Janakeeyam 2006’ started when Vijayan was Kochi City police commissioner was later developed into the ‘Student Police Cadet Project’ in 2008.
The project was declared as a state government scheme in 2010 and P Vijayan was appointed its state nodal officer. At present, about 32,000 children have enrolled as student police cadets in 420 schools in the state. He was selected as CNN-IBN Indian of the Year in 2014.
