Tourism revival: Thusharagiri's Mazhavilchattam, Thumbithullumpara waterfalls reopened for visitors

Kozhikode: Access to the majestic waterfalls of Thusharagiri Eco Tourism Centre, including Mazhavilchattam and Thumbithullumpara waterfalls, has been resumed. The permission for visitors to view the second and third waterfalls has been temporarily suspended due to increased water levels since the start of the monsoon season. However, with the water levels now reduced, the waterfalls have been reopened for visitors.
The decision was made based on a report from the Thamarassery Range Forest Officer, as confirmed by Kozhikode Divisional Forest Officer Ashiq Ali U.
Currently, only the first waterfall is open to visitors.
The ticket prices are ₹40 for adults, ₹20 for children and ₹100 for foreign tourists. With this ticket, visitors can access all three waterfalls. To reach the second and third waterfalls from the first one, visitors will have to walk approximately one kilometre. Wild elephants have been frequently spotted in these areas, and a calf has also been observed. Since the elephant herd is less likely to move quickly from the path, there is a safety concern for visitors.
To manage safety, visitors with tickets for the 9.00 am to 11.00 am slot will be guided as one group with a guide, and those with tickets from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm as a second group with another guide. This measure ensures the safe opening of the second and third waterfalls.
Trekking from Thusharagiri to Thenpara, which had been temporarily halted, will also resume in a structured manner with a three-day schedule, according to the Kozhikode Divisional Forest Officer's order.
