Kaziranga National Park to reopen for tourists on October 1

Kaziranga National Park, one of Assam’s most famous wildlife sanctuaries, will welcome tourists again from October 1, 2024.

Due to the risk of flooding from the Brahmaputra River, the park closes every year from May to October.

Located in the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Kaziranga is home to the rare one-horned rhinoceros and many other unique animals.

In a recent announcement on September 7, the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer confirmed that the park will reopen for the 2024-2025 season, depending on the weather. At the moment, due to poor road conditions caused by heavy rain, Jeep Safaris are allowed in only three parts of the park: Kaziranga Range (Kohora), Western Range (Bagori), and Burapahar Range (Ghorakati).

The most popular attraction of the park is the elephant safari, which offers visitors a close look at the one-horned rhinoceros in its natural habitat.

Kaziranga is one of the world's most important wildlife sanctuaries. It is situated on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. The one-horned rhinoceros is one of the mainly protected animal in Kaziranga. It is also home to many other special creatures, such as the endangered pygmy hog, the beautiful white-winged wood duck, Bengal floricans, and the golden langur monkey.

It has also been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it one of the world’s most important wildlife destinations.
