This YouTuber solved Rubik’s Cube while skydiving and it’s now a world record | WATCH

It’s one thing to solve a puzzle cube quickly, but doing it while falling through the air is an entirely different level. A young creator has taken this familiar brain teaser to an extreme setting and turned it into a record-breaking moment.
German YouTuber Tom Kopke has successfully entered the record books with a unique feat, as reported by Guinness World Records. He achieved the fastest time to solve a rotating puzzle cube while in freefall, completing the task in just 23.333 seconds.
The attempt took place during a skydive above Mossel Bay in February. With this, Tom surpassed the earlier record of 28.250 seconds held by Sam Sieracki, which had been set in 2023.
From hobby to high-altitude challenge
Now 23 and studying medicine, Tom shared that he first picked up the Rubik's Cube at the age of 18. What began as a hobby soon turned into something more serious, with hours of practice helping him refine his skills.
He had previously uploaded a video attempting unusual cube-solving challenges, where he first spoke about wanting to solve one while skydiving. At the time, however, he lacked both the funds and the time needed to obtain a skydiving licence, so the idea had to wait.
Earlier attempts and achievements
Even without access to the skies, Tom explored other creative ways to push his limits. In the same video, he managed to solve six Rubik's Cubes underwater, an effort that helped him tie a Guinness World Records title. He also went on to learn how to solve the cube blindfolded, adding another layer to his skill set.
That said, the official record for solving the most rotating puzzle cubes underwater is higher. It stands at 16, achieved by Daryl Tan Hong An from Singapore. Despite this benchmark, Tom chose not to pursue the underwater route further and instead focused on something more daring.
Why the sky?
Tom explained that learning skydiving had long been on his list, particularly because he wanted to create more ambitious content involving aerial challenges. Taking on a world record attempt early in that journey gave his training a clear purpose.
He added that having a defined goal from the outset made the entire experience more meaningful, turning what could have been just another skill into a milestone achievement.
