Stranger sleeps on Kenyan traveller’s lap in packed train; video sparks online debate | VIDEO

A Kenyan travel vlogger’s experience on an Indian general class train has sparked widespread discussion online after he captured the realities of unreserved travel in a crowded coach. The video, posted on Instagram, shows the vlogger enduring a 30-hour journey packed tightly among passengers, luggage and little personal space.
Vin Soul, who shares his travel experiences online, recorded himself sitting on an upper berth inside an overcrowded compartment—footage that has since drawn thousands of reactions.
A crowded journey captured on camera
In the clip, Soul is seen squeezed into a cramped space after travelling for more than 30 hours. The coach appears packed wall-to-wall, with passengers standing, sitting and lying wherever space is available. One moment in particular caught viewers’ attention: a local passenger, unable to find room, is seen sleeping on Soul’s lap.
Sharing the clip, the vlogger wrote, “Travelling for over 30 hours on an Indian general train is not for the weak. Babysitting a grown man.” The caption, equal parts humorous and exasperated, struck a chord with users familiar with the conditions in general class travel.
Online reactions pour in
The video quickly filled with comments reflecting a mix of sympathy, embarrassment and humour. Some users apologised on behalf of fellow passengers, with one writing, “We fail as humans to respect a visitor sorry brother,” while another said, “Man I am sorry from his side.”
Others responded matter-of-factly, noting that such scenes are common in unreserved coaches. “Don’t get uncomfortable bro that’s a general class,” one user commented, while another added, “You should buy a ticket for a reserved seat. It’s common in the general compartment.”
Several viewers reacted with a lighter touch. One wrote, “Lol what can I say happy journey,” while another criticised what they saw as a lack of basic comfort: “This looks not acceptable at so many levels.”
Although the vlogger’s experience surprised many international viewers, regular travellers pointed out that overcrowding in general class coaches remains a routine part of long-distance journeys, especially during peak seasons.
