Conducted once every 10 years under the Census Act, 1948, it collects information on population, housing, education, occupation and social conditions. The data supports welfare schemes, policy decisions, constituency delimitation and resource allocation.

Stage One: Recording household and housing information

Steps to submit your census details online
- Visit the official platform to begin the process.
- Choose your location and complete captcha verification.
- Register your household information
Enter your details such as:
- Name of household head
- Mobile number
- Optional email address
- Verify your details through the OTP sent to your registered contact.
- Select Your Preferred Language: You can choose English or any Indian language that is available.
- Fill in the required household and personal details carefully.
- After submission, you will receive an 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID beginning with “H”.
- Share the ID when census officials visit for final confirmation.

- Self-enumeration is optional but encouraged.
- You can save progress and edit before the deadline.
- After submission, only limited corrections can be made.
- The portal works only within India.
- Census participation remains mandatory.
Self-enumeration windows will open state-wise for 15 days before house-to-house visits begin under Phase I between April and September 2026. Phase II date is officially scheduled for February 2027
