What if glass skin was never real? Mira Kapoor says we're chasing the wrong goal

The quest for "glass skin" has become social media's beauty obsessions, but Mira Kapoor believes it's setting unrealistic expectations.
The entrepreneur and co-founder of skincare brand Akind has now questioned the viral trend, saying healthy skin shouldn't be judged by an impossibly flawless, poreless finish.
Popularised by Korean beauty, the "glass skin" trend refers to skin that appears intensely hydrated, smooth and luminous, almost like a pane of glass.
Over the years, it has moved from a K-beauty concept into a global skincare aspiration, inspiring countless multi-step routines and products that promise the coveted glow.
In a video shared on Instagram, Mira said, "Is it just me or is the glass skin trend very unrealistic? Don't get me wrong, it looks beautiful. That super clear, poreless, reflective finish. But can it really be a beauty goal in our weather? I don't think so and I haven't even tried to get it."
She explained that many people try to recreate the look by layering multiple skincare products, but pointed out that the skin can only absorb so much. According to her, chasing a perfectly reflective complexion often ignores what skin actually needs.

Mira also argued that much of the coveted "glass skin" effect isn't entirely skincare. "Let's be real, a lot of that glass effect is just good old lighting," she said, adding that pores are a natural part of healthy skin and should not be viewed as imperfections.
"Skin has pores and that's not a flaw; it's how it functions. You can work on refining texture and you can improve hydration and barrier regulation with a moisturiser. But reflective skin 24x7, that's not how skin behaves," she said.
Urging people to change their beauty goals, Mira concluded, "Maybe it's time we stop chasing perfect and start building balanced, resilient skin."
Mira Rajput often uses her social media to share moments from her everyday life, whether it's spending time with her family, managing her businesses or snippets from her daily routine.
She also regularly speaks about issues she feels strongly about. Just a few weeks ago, she shared her thoughts on how women often carry the mental load of making endless decisions, saying that being free from that constant responsibility is essential for them to truly relax and reconnect with themselves.
