It is a truth universally acknowledged that everything Bebo touches turns instantly cinematic. Blame the bloodline (Nepo-army, kindly see yourselves out), but the woman has more frames-per-second running through her than the rest of us have haemoglobin.

In Ritu Kumar's new campaign, she's gone full period-drama heroine, sprawling estates, heritage textiles, and a gaze that could carry an entire third act.

Mrs. Kumar, for her part, is no stranger to Bebo's particular brand of magic. As the reigning matriarch of Indian fashion, she's watched the industry go from a wild, unregulated frontier to the slick machine it is today.

And back in 2012, when Kareena Kapoor married Saif in what was essentially a national cinematic event, it was Mrs. Kumar's house that restored the Pataudi family heirloom for the occasion, a garment with its own lineage, once belonging to the Begum of Bhopal, later worn by Kareena's mother-in-law on her wedding day, then brought back to life for Kareena's. So naturally, when the brand wanted a face for a collection built on heritage, there was only one call to make.

And Kareena clearly knows exactly what that heirloom meant. In her own words announcing the collaboration, she said it "was about emotion, memories, heritage and a beautiful sense of belonging," continuation of something already deeply personal.

The collection itself is, frankly, a craft flex. Designed by Amrish Kumar, it leans hard into India's architectural and artisanal history while staying wearable for now.

Exhibit A: the Jaisalmer Jacket and Skirt, drawing from Rajasthan's architecture, with block prints reimagined and aari, tikki and zardozi embroidery stacked on top over 600 hours of work in one outfit, per the house.

On Kareena it lands regal, effortlessly so, rounded off with vintage Schiaparelli earrings and polki buttons by Birdhichand. Though let's be honest, her face is doing at least half the campaign's job.

Behind the scenes, it was a proper production by Anil Kapoor Film and Communication Network at the helm, Rhea Kapoor co-producing and styling, Karan Boolani producing, The Badly Drawn Boy on photography, Kettle Love on video, and Shereen leading styling.

Amrish Kumar framed the pairing as a natural next step, the house's long-standing bond with Kareena, he said, made her the obvious choice as Ritu Kumar enters this next phase under his direction.

Kareena returned the sentiment, calling it meaningful to be part of this new chapter with Amrish, adding simply, "Some things really do come full circle."

Zardozi, aari, kasab, resham, block prints, mirror work, Ritu Kumar could do this stuff blindfolded at this point. So really, buying into the label means buying into decades of craft expertise, and apparently, a slightly better shot at Kareena-level main-character energy. (Mungerilal ke haseen sapne, lol.)
