Alia Bhatt added a burst of colour to this year’s Durga Puja celebrations in Mumbai. The actress visited the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja on Monday afternoon in a Bengali-style saree whose bold colour pairing and carefully thought-out details made it one of the festive season’s more memorable looks.

The drape was a vivid fuchsia-pink, scattered with fine gold dots and edged with a metallic border that caught the light as she moved. The saree was worn in the traditional Bengali manner, a nod to the spirit of the festival. The shade, often described as rani pink, has long been a festive favourite, and its gold detailing kept the look celebratory without becoming heavy.

The blouse steals the spotlight

The most striking choice was the contrast. Instead of a matching or neutral blouse, Alia picked a sky-blue one with structured puff sleeves, which gave the silhouette a polished, slightly vintage shape. The cool blue against the warm pink created a lively play of colour.

The back held the detail that made the blouse special. Four lotus motifs ran in a vertical line beneath a crescent moon. Both symbols carry deep meaning in Indian tradition, and the lotus in particular has a close association with the goddess being honoured at the pandal. There’s also gold embroidery on the blouse, which tied it neatly to the gold dots on the saree.

Jewellery and accessories

Alia kept her jewellery in a single metallic family, and all of it was gold. Large jhumkas framed her face, while a stack of bangles and a bold cocktail ring finished the ensemble. The pieces echoed the saree’s border and the blouse’s embroidery, so the whole outfit looked cohesive.

Her hair was drawn back into a tidy low bun, decorated with fine gold hair accessories and a fragrant gajra of fresh flowers. The make-up was soft and understated, with kohl-lined eyes, a glossy lip and a small black bindi. The restrained face let the colours of the outfit take centre stage.

Alia was accompanied by her close friend and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji. Her visit came a few days after her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, also attended and charmed fans by singing a few lines of ‘Kabira’.
