Pazhassi Raja Museum enlightens visitors with glimpses from history

Kozhikode: Pazhassi Raja Museum and Art Gallery in Kozhikode preserves a massive collection of rare remnants from the ancient megalithic age. 

Along with the 1200-year-old pearls and 800-year-old numerous bronze sculptures, monuments during the birth of civilisations, including clay utensils, weapons, coins, toys, sculpture in wood and stone, hero stones (Veerakallu) and quadrangular burial chambers. The last artefact excavated and arrived here was well rings made of clay.   

In the museum functioning under Kerala Archaeological department, upto 8000-year-old monuments are well preserved. The museum was set up in the official residence of collectors in British Malabar in 1976. Hence, the artefacts from ancient era to the British period are stored here.

The facilities such as souvenir shop, library, conference hall and theatre have been established on the premises of the museum. 

The authorities of the museum are gradually adopting digital technology for easy access of information regarding the antiquities. Without the help of any instructor, visitors can obtain details of artefacts via touch screen, scanning QR codes or through the YouTube channel. 

The museum provides facilities for students to study and research over the artefacts kept here. A huge rush of visitors were seen when it was opened after renovation.

Route

Visitors can reach Pazhassi Raja Museum from Kozhikode town via Kannur road- West Hill- East Hill route and through Wayanad road- Karaparamba- East Hill road. The museum is only 500 metres away from the East Hill junction.
