Kadalundi sanctuary to gain new vigour with Oceanus Chaliyam and floating restaurant

Kadalundi: In order to boost the tourist potential of the Kadalundi bird sanctuary, the tourism department is all set to build a floating restaurant, walkways and launch Oceanus project here. A total of Rs 1.44 crore has been allotted to construct walkways and Rs 8,55,88,028 has been granted for the second phase of Oceanus project aimed to develop and embellish Chaliyam and Pulimoodu. The construction of a floating restaurant near the Kadalundi- Kottakadavu bridge will incur Rs 94 lakh.
One among the major developments is the Oceanus project planned to renovate the Pulimmodu in Chaliyam. The building of walkways, solar panel, watch tower, project office, food shacks, rest rooms, and lavatories have been included in the masterplan. Rs 98,75,291 had been granted for the first phase of renovation here.
To relish the beauty of nature in the bird sanctuary, walkways, arch bridge, viewing deck, railing and fencing, eateries, decorative lamps and similar facilities will be installed here.
Floating bridge
Constructions similar to floating bridges have gained much popularity in foreign countries. The restaurant will be set up near the Kottakadavu bridge with a seating capacity of 82. It has been expected to begin the construction by June and complete it within 9 months. The permission has been granted by considering the master plan submitted by IIT Madras after ensuring the safety and stability of such restaurants over the river.
