K Jayakumar bags Indywood Literary Award for overall contribution

The most expensive award in Malayalam literature, Indywood Language and Literature Awards, for this year have been announced. Retired IAS officer K Jayakumar won the Bhasha Kesari award for overall contribution. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, felicitation letter and a plaque.

Indywood founder Dr Sohan Roy said that though Jayakumar works in a sector which is not directly linked with language, he contributed a lot for the language and literature.

The award also honours people who excel in different sections of literature. Such awards comprise a purse of Rs 10,000 and felicitation letter.

Gireesh Puliyoor was selected as best poet for his poem titled ‘Karamanayar’. Subhash Chandran was given best novelist award for his novel ‘Samudrasila’. M D Rajendran was selected as best lyricist for the song ‘Kuri Varachalum’. ‘Ormakalude Bhramanapatham’ written by Nambi Narayanan was chosen as the best autobiography.

Bipin Chandran bagged the award for best article writer through the article ‘Komali Melkkai Nedunna Kalam’. Saira’s collection of stories titled ‘Thirike’ was selected for best story award. ‘Samagram Madhuram Malayalam’ by Jobin S Kottaram was chosen as the best educational book. Muhammed Shafeek’s ‘Ama’ became the best screenplay.

Other awards include best critic (V U Surendran – Vakkinte Sprasham), best science fiction (Dr K Sreekumar – Arangu), best travel writer (K Viswanath – Yathra Indian Smarakangaliloode), best children’s writer (Sajeevan Mokeri – Kunjikurukkanum Koottukarum), best translation (Dr Minipriya R – Kankanam), best literary research (Dr Nithya P Viswam – Parody in Malayalam poetry) and best humour writer (Naina Mannancherry – Pankans on Country).
