National Overseas Scholarship for ST candidates: Apply by July 30 2022

Ministry of Tribal Affairs [Scholarship Section] Government of India has invited applications under the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme (NOS) for ST candidates for the Selection year 2022-23. 

The scholarship is awarded to students selected for pursuing higher studies abroad at the Masters level, Ph.D and Post-Doctoral Research programmes. 

Number of slots for Scholarship is 20 of which 17 would be to Scheduled Tribes and 3 to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PTG). Six awards (30%) are earmarked for girls.

Subjects covered: The subjects/disciplines in which courses may be undertaken for grant of award are (i)Engineering, Management, Economics/Finance- total 7 (ii) Pure Science, Applied Science- 3 (ii) Agriculture, Medicine -5 (iv) Humanities, Social Science -5.

The prescribed financial assistance shall be provided till completion of the course/research or the following period, whichever is earlier: (a) Post-Doctoral Research - 1 & 1/2 years (b) Ph. D. 4 years (c)Master's Degree-1/2/3 years depending upon the duration of the Course.

Eligibility: (a) For Post-Doctoral: 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Master’s Degree and Ph.D (b) For Ph.D: 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Master’s Degree. (c) For Masters’ Degree: 55% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Bachelor's Degree. Experience will be an advantage for all Programs. Applicant should be below 35 years, as on 1.7.2022.

Total family income from all sources of the employed candidate or his/her parents/guardians or spouse should not exceed Rs. 6.00 lakh per annum. Only one child in a family will be eligible for the award which is a one-time award.

The scholarship includes (i) Annual Maintenance Allowance of US Dollars 15,400/-/Pound sterling 9,900/- (ii) Annual Contingency and Equipment Allowance of US Dollars 1532 or Pound sterling 1116. There are other benefits also.
