Sukhbir Singh Badal injured in 'kirpan' attack in Nanded; one held
Nanded: Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was injured in a knife attack inside a gurdwara in Maharashtra's Nanded on Thursday, police said.
A Nihang (member of a martial order of Sikhs) attacked Badal with a kirpan (curved dagger) inside the gurdwara, Nanded SP Neelabh Rohan told PTI.
The assailant has been taken into custody, the IPS officer said.
Maharashtra govt proposes to amend law to make Marathi mandatory for cab drivers
Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has proposed to amend the law to make "working knowledge of Marathi language" mandatory for taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers, with non-compliance potentially leading to suspension or revocation of their driving licences, officials said.
Phuket-Delhi flight incident: Air India to screen over 5,000 pilots in wider drug testing exercise
New Delhi: Air India and Air India Express will conduct mandatory psychoactive substance testing for all their pilots, following reports that the pilot-in-command of a Phuket-Delhi flight tested positive for marijuana after the aircraft suddenly lost altitude.
The two Tata Group-owned airlines have more than 5,000 pilots combined. The comprehensive screening is aimed at checking for substances or medications prohibited under prevailing aviation regulations.

Iran says manages Hormuz Strait after Trump claims US control
Tehran: A senior Iranian official said on Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz remains under the control of the Islamic republic after President Donald Trump claimed US control over the strategic waterway.
"Today, you see that the Strait of Hormuz is under the management and control of the Islamic republic, and our country continues on its path in complete security," said Hossein Taeb, head of the paramilitary Basij forces affiliated with Iran's Revolutionary Guards, according to state television.
2.4 million Afghan girls shut out of secondary school 5 years after Taliban takeover, UN says
Ankara: An estimated 2.4 million Afghan girls remain excluded from secondary education five years after the Taliban took over the country, a UN agency said Tuesday, renewing a call for an immediate restoration of their right to education.
UNESCO, the Paris-based UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, said the continued exclusion of women and girls from education amounted to a grave violation of their fundamental rights.

The heads of six Arab soccer federations expressed their “full support” and “confidence” in Gianni Infantino on Thursday as the embattled FIFA president fights to keep his job after his failed World Cup private investment plan.
The backing came from 2030 World Cup co-host Morocco, Qatar, Egypt, Mauritania, Lebanon and Sudan, with four of the signatories being FIFA council members.
