MA & PhD admissions at Centre for Development Studies in TVM

Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram, an autonomous research centre sponsored by the Government of Kerala and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has invited applications for admission to the full time MA Applied Economics and PhD Economics Programmes offered at the Institute.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) awards degree for both Programmes.
Eligibility for admissions:
MA Applied Economics: Applicant should hold Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with at least 50% marks. SC, ST & Person with Disability (PWD) candidates are eligible to apply irrespective of the percentage of marks in the qualifying degree. Those who are appearing for their final examination may also apply. Selection will be based on an entrance examination to be held from 10 am to 12 noon on the 4th June, 2023.
The Programme will be completed in 4 semesters and fee will be Rs. 8000/- per semester (Rs.2000/- for SC/ST students). Differently abled MA students will be charged only 25% of general tuition fee, provided that their annual family income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh. Hostel accommodation will be provided to all selected students.
PhD in Economics: Applicant should hold Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in General Category and 50% marks in OBC (NCL), SC, ST and Person with Disability (PWD) or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale/equivalent or an equivalent recognised degree from a foreign educational Institution.
The admission process is different for JRF and non-JRF holders. In the case of candidates having JRF through CSIR/UGC NET examination, the admission will be based solely on personal interview.
Selection of candidates belonging to Non-JRF category will be based an entrance examination to be held on 4.6.2023 and personal interview. Final selection will be based on the combined scores of the entrance examination and interview.
Statutory Reservation for candidates from India belonging to SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS and Person with Disability(PWD) (≥ 40% disability) as per Government of India Rules.
PhD scholars may avail the UGC’s JRF/SRF, National Fellowship for SC/ST/OBC, Moulana Azad Fellowships and the Kerala State Government fellowship for SC/ST students. Students who have not qualified for fellowships from other sources may avail a small number of ICSSR fellowships on a competitive basis.

Applications can be submitted online at https://cds.edu/admission-2023/ latest by 30th April 2023. There is no application fee for candidates belonging to SC, ST/eligible PWD (with ≥40% disability) categories. For others, application fee is Rs. 500/-.
