SSLC Minimum Marks: KSTA yields to CPM; agrees to amendment

Thiruvananthapuram: The KSTA (Kerala School Teachers Association) has conceded to pressure from the State Government and the CPM regarding the SSLC minimum marks. The State committee of the association has decided not to object to the reformation aimed at raising the academic standards.

The Association evaluated that the academic standards have not improved accordingly to the physical conditions. Hence, it will take up programmes to address this issue. The Association leadership has maintained that the government has agreed to look into the apprehensions about students from marginalised sections failing.

Education Minister V Sivankutty had earlier argued that students from marginalised sections would fail if the minimum mark system were implemented. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also stated that the system should be introduced after correcting all its drawbacks.

CPM State secretary M V Govindan also sought everyone’s cooperation to introduce new amendments in the education sector for its betterment.
