The Department of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) has opened applications for its 2026 Young Talent Nurture (YTN) program, a specialised 13-day residential workshop scheduled for June 15–27.

The initiative, hosted by the autonomous institute under the Department of Space, Government of India, is designed to foster mathematical aptitude and refine the analytical and logical reasoning skills of emerging scholars. Organisers stated the program aims to equip participants with the tools necessary to address complex problems in both theoretical and applied mathematics.

Curriculum and Scope

The 2026 curriculum will focus on several core mathematical disciplines, including Abstract Algebra, Analysis and Metric Spaces, Differential Equations, and Complex Analysis. Instruction is intended to prepare students for the rigorous demands of advanced mathematical research and its diverse real-world applications.

Eligibility and Application Process

The program is open to students who have finished their sixth semester or third year of a B.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. in Mathematics. Additionally, candidates enrolled in B.Tech., Integrated BS-MS, or other M.Sc. tracks are eligible to apply, provided they have completed a significant amount of coursework in mathematics.

Prospective attendees must submit their applications via the official institute portal at https://events.iist.ac.in/ytn2026/ by May 8, 2026. A critical requirement for the application is the submission of contact information for a mathematics professor familiar with the student’s work. A formal letter of recommendation from this individual must be received by May 10, 2026.

Selection and Benefits

IIST will select participants based on a combination of academic merit and the strength of the provided recommendation letter. The final roster of successful applicants will be posted on May 14, 2026, though the institute noted that only those selected will receive direct notification.

To support the participants, IIST will provide complimentary boarding and lodging at its Thiruvananthapuram campus for the duration of the 13-day event. Further inquiries may be directed to the program organisers at maths.ytn@iist.ac.in.
