Thiruvananthapuram: The move made by deputation teachers to ensure permanent appointment in  District Teacher Education and Training Institutes (DIETS) using political influence failed. The department of general education issued an order stating that regularization of those on deputation would create a wrong precedent and would be unfair to the PSC candidates who are awaiting appointment.

89 teachers who were appointed as DIET lecturers on deputation system are the ones who made attempts for permanent appointment. Most of them are members of the pro-government teachers union.

The five-year deputation period ended in November and they were ordered to be released from service, but they did not re-enter the schools. When the dispute went to court, the government clarified that the deputation officers appointed temporarily cannot be made permanent.
