Food analyst examination 2025 applications open at FSSAI: Apply now

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi, has invited applications for the Food Analyst Examination (FAE), 2025, as per sub-rule (ii) of Rule 2.1.4 of Food Safety and Standards (First Amendment) Rules, 2022.
Essential educational qualification: Applicant should hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree in one of chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, dairy chemistry, agriculture science, animal science, fisheries science, biotechnology, food safety, food technology, food and nutrition, dairy technology, oil technology, or veterinary sciences from a university established in India by law or be an associate of the Institution of Chemists (India) by examination in the section of Food Analysts conducted by the Institution of Chemists (India).
Essential experience: Applicant should possess not less than three years’ experience in the analysis of food in any institution/research institution/research laboratory after attaining the minimum essential academic qualification specified. Experience will be calculated from the date of graduation until the closing date of application. Experience gained before or after this period, and during academic programmes (e.g., postgraduate or doctoral programs), will not be considered.
Age limit: There is no upper age limit for appearing in the FAE 2025.
FAE includes a Computer Based Test (CBT) and Practical Examination for those qualifying in the CBT.
The Computer Based Test will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) in 2 streams: (i) Chemical (ii) Biological. Applicants are required to select the applicable discipline (Chemical or Biological) while filling out the application form for the Computer Based Test (CBT) as well as for the Practical Examination. Once discipline selected, it cannot be changed till completion of examination.
The topics for the examination with the number of questions and weightage for each topic are given in the Examination Plan at https://fssai.gov.in/ [Jobs@fssai (Careers) link]. Four marks will be awarded for each correct answer, and one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. The syllabus for the computer-based test is available at the website. FSSAI does not provide previous years’ question papers. However, the question paper of the 7th Food Analyst Examination (FAE), 2021, is available on the FSSAI website to help candidates understand the examination pattern.
The Computer Based Test (CBT) will be held on 8th March 2026. Candidates may be given the option to select the examination centre in the order of preference while filling the online form.
Candidates should secure a minimum of 50% marks to qualify for the Computer Based Test (CBT). Those who qualify for the Computer-Based Test (CBT) will be eligible to appear for the practical examination. Date, venue and syllabus for the practical examination will be intimated separately. Pre-qualified Junior Analysts (cleared the Junior Analyst Examination (JAE)) with the requisite experience of not less than three years can directly appear for the Practical Examination.
The results of the CBT and practical examinations will be published on the examination portal. Candidates may access their results by logging into the portal using their credentials.
The personal, academic, and experience documents of candidates who qualify for the practical examination will be subjected to scrutiny.
Those candidates who qualify for the practical examination and fulfill all prescribed eligibility criteria, as evidenced by the submitted documents, will be eligible to undergo the mandatory two-week Food Analyst Training at the venue decided by FSSAI. All training-related expenses shall be borne by the FSSAI.
Candidates who successfully complete the Food Analyst Training shall be issued Food Analyst Certificates by hand at the FSSAI Training Centres. The examination and issuance of certificates does not guarantee employment with FSSAI.
Application can be submitted online at https://fssai.gov.in/jobs@fssai.php latest by 22 January 2026. Examination Fee is Rs. 2500/- (plus GST) for CBT and Rs. 5000/- (plus GST) for practical examination. The fee should be paid online.
