New Delhi: In a relief for Class 12 students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the last date for applying for scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets for the 2026 board examinations.

Students can now submit their applications till May 23, instead of the earlier deadline of May 22, according to an official update issued by the board.

Students advised to use extended window

CBSE has urged candidates to make use of the additional time and complete the application process within the revised schedule. The board also clarified that all other rules and conditions related to the process will remain unchanged.

The facility allows students to access scanned copies of their evaluated answer books, giving them an opportunity to closely review their answers and marking. The move is aimed at improving transparency in the evaluation system and helping students identify any discrepancies before applying for further verification or re-evaluation.

Process gains attention after evaluation concerns

The post-result process has drawn significant attention this year following concerns raised by several students over the newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for digital evaluation of answer scripts.

CBSE recently completed full-scale digital evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets, with lakhs of scanned answer books assessed online by evaluators across the country.

However, after the declaration of results, many students took to social media claiming that some answers, diagrams and pages may not have been evaluated properly during the scanning process.

Re-evaluation process underway

CBSE had opened the application window for obtaining scanned answer sheets on May 19 as part of its post-result review process.

Under the current system, students must first apply for scanned copies of their answer books before becoming eligible to seek verification of marks or re-evaluation of specific answers.

The board has said the process is intended to ensure fairness and transparency while allowing students to personally review the evaluation of their papers.

Technical issues reported by students

In recent days, several students also reported difficulties accessing the portal, including login failures and delays in activation of the answer-sheet access link.

CBSE, however, maintained that there were no major technical glitches and said the National Informatics Centre (NIC) was monitoring the system to ensure smooth functioning.

The extension of the deadline is expected to provide additional time for students who were unable to complete the process earlier due to heavy traffic or technical issues on the portal.
